What Is Really Important?
What is really important?
Joe E. Lewis said: “You only live once – but if you work it right, once is enough”. These past few days, I have consciously been putting things in perspective and re-evaluating a whole lot. There is so much going on that one is easily confused. I mean, what is this life really about? It’s so comforting to know that I have a hope beyond here, a hope through Christ Jesus… Thanks be to God.
A church member of mine passed away last week. Everyone speaks of his wonderful and God fearing personality. I made sure I attended the service of songs yesterday because I needed to bring myself to a state of consciousness that this life will end one day and could I truly say “I was here and I lived a purposeful life?”. I knew I needed a reality check. The message during the service was powerful and apt. It got me thinking to myself “what is REALLY important”? Are we blindly chasing earthly things and building treasures here where moth and rust destroy? Or are we doing it the right way by laying up our treasures in heavenly places where moth and rust do not destroy?
At times like this when there is so much vagueness, it is important for us to reflect and place premium on what is really important. For me, it’s family, amazing experiences/memories with the ones I love, happiness and most importantly, my salvation. Someone said something to me yesterday that I have written in my heart. She said “eternity is too long to be spent somewhere we are not sure of”. This is so true. It’s only when we begin to evaluate what’s truly important that we actually put things in proper perspective, make better decisions, and ultimately, let go and let God.
I leave you with the words of Paul to the Corinthians: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.” This, is what is REALLY important.
